Gaby Sosa is an independent filmmaker focused on telling provocative stories.

Some of her inspirations include the immersive filmmaking from Mexican filmmaker Alejandro Iñarritu, the delicacy, intentionally and gripping storytelling of Polish auteur Paweł Pawlikowski, and the experimental, avant garde and agonizing characters of Argentinian director, Gaspar Noë.

A huge believer in interdisciplinary art, Gaby also turns to sound designers and sound composers to transform the 3 dimensional aspect of story. Some of her favorite soundtracks include:

Nicholas Britel: If Beale Street Could Talk

Antonio Sanchez: Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)

Ya No Estoy Aqui (I’m No Longer Here) Soundtrack

She first co-directed and produced Mi Papa Antonio, on 16 mm film in Prague, CZ. While there, she attended FAMU, one of the oldest and best film schools in the world.

Upon returning she wrote, directed and produced Ripe following a retired rockstar resisting external pressures in conforming to a retirement home lifestyle.

Gaby is currently working through different drafts of Para El Dolor Sin Pena [For Pain Without Sorrow]. Focusing on a grieving Salvadoran mother, For Pain Without Sorrow spotlights the conflicting beauty of latino funerals, closing the distance between generational differences and what it means to find peace after immigrating due to a war torn childhood.

Her feature film, The Information Action Ratio focuses on the generational angst and informational disconnect in today’s age through a first gen studying abroad in Europe.

Gaby earned the The MTV Joel Schumacher & Sophia Cranshaw Scholarships with The Gotham: Film & Media Institute.
